PUMPS: A Brief Introduction & Classification
The hydraulic machines, which convert the
mechanical energy into hydraulic energy, are called pumps. The hydraulic energy
is in the form of pressure energy.
Most
process in industries involves the transportation of liquids, or their transfer
from one level of pressure or static energy to another. The pump is the
mechanical means for achieving this transport or transfer, and thus becomes an
essential part of all processes.
Classification
of Pumps: Pumps
may be classified on the basis of application they serve, the material from
which they are constructed, the liquid they handle, and even their orientation
in the space.
